RCGS Organization

The Rockwall County Genealogical Society (RCGS) was founded in 1982 by a group of local Rockwall County citizens with a desire to advance the understanding of genealogical research methods for both beginners and advanced researchers.

The RCGS meets eleven months of the year with a program presentation and an update on the various genealogy society happenings among RCGS members and local and national genealogy societies. RCGS dues are due at the beginning of the calendar year at the January meeting and are $20 for individual, $25 for family, and $30 for an institution. Dues primarily offsets the cost for the high quality genealogical speakers that we have at minimum of four meetings throughout the year. Because of Internet research and sites like Ancestry.com many beginning genealogist have the misconception that there's no longer a need for local genealogy societies, this couldn't be further from the truth. RCGS members and speakers can help give a much broader understanding through experience and lessons learned of what for most is a life long journey.

The RCGS is dedicated to preserving the history of our ancestors and especially the history of Rockwall County and its citizens. Everyone interested in genealogy is welcome to attend and we especially look forward to those who have the desire to give back to their community and help our organization grow.
